Chase has elevated welcome offers on all six United MileagePlus cards right now, and Chase's own pages label two of them as standout offers: the United Gateway ("our best offer ever") and the United Explorer ("our best offer returns"). The Quest, Club and both business cards are marked as limited-time offers. Chase doesn't list an end date on any of them.
| Card | Welcome offer (per Chase) | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|
| United Gateway | 40,000 miles after $1,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for adding an authorized user (up to 50,000) | $0 |
| United Explorer | 70,000 miles after $3,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for adding an authorized user (up to 80,000) | $0 intro first year, then $150 |
| United Quest | 80,000 miles after $4,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for an authorized user + 500 PQP after first purchase (up to 90,000) | $350 |
| United Club | 90,000 miles after $5,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for an authorized user (up to 100,000) | $695 |
| United Business | 90,000 miles + 2,000 PQP after $5,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for an authorized user (up to 100,000) | $150 |
| United Club Business | 90,000 miles + 2,000 PQP after $5,000 in 3 months + 10,000 miles for an authorized user (up to 100,000) | $695 |
At our valuation of United miles (1 cent each on the low end, see point values), the full Explorer bonus is worth about $800 and the Club and business bonuses about $1,000 before the annual fee.
What to know before applying
- Once per card, every 24 months. Chase says each offer isn't available if you currently have that card or earned a new cardmember bonus on it in the last 24 months.
- Chase 5/24 applies. Chase usually declines applicants who opened 5 or more personal cards in the past 24 months. Business cards don't add to your count, but you still need to be under it to be approved. See our 5/24 guide.
- The authorized-user miles are a separate bonus. You get the extra 10,000 miles once, for the first authorized user added in the first 3 months.
- PQP help with status. The Quest's 500 PQP and the business cards' 2,000 PQP count toward United Premier status on top of what card spending earns.
- Some readers may see a different Explorer offer. Doctor of Credit has reported a version with a $500 statement credit plus 25,000 miles and 10,000 for an authorized user. That's reported, not on Chase's public page today.
Who this may make sense for
The Explorer may make sense if you fly United a few times a year: the first-year fee is $0 and the free checked bag alone can cover the $150 fee later. The Gateway is the no-fee option if you only want the miles. The Club cards only make sense if you'll use United Club access, since the fee is $695.
