Amex's terms for the Aspire offer list 200,000 bonus points, with no Free Night Reward in the welcome offer.
Why the free night matters
Per Amex's terms, the Free Night Reward can be used at properties in the Hilton portfolio, subject to availability and excluding the hotels Hilton lists at HiltonHonors.com/freenightreward. You redeem it by calling Hilton Honors, and it expires 12 months after it's issued. Because it's one night rather than a set number of points, it tends to be worth the most at hotels with high nightly rates.
Who this may make sense for
- The no-fee Hilton Honors card may make sense if you want a free night and points without paying an annual fee.
- The Surpass may make sense if you'd use its $200 yearly Hilton credit (up to $50 a quarter, per Amex) to offset its $150 fee.
- The Business card offers the most points with a free night, but asks for $8,000 in spending.
Things to check before you apply
- Amex may not give you a bonus if you have or have had the same card. For the Surpass, that also includes the older Hilton Honors Ascend card.
- A new card means a hard credit inquiry. Personal Amex cards count toward Chase's 5/24 rule; Amex business cards generally don't.
- Compare the bonus with the fee using our guide to sign-up bonuses vs. annual fees.
